About Seed and Sage
Our name and logo? They tell the story of where we came from, what we’ve learned, and why we do this.
We both grew up in the desert—specifically the Great Basin—where the landscape is dry, rugged, and resilient. And in that sunbaked earth, one plant seemed to thrive no matter what: sage. It was everywhere. As far as the eye can see. Lining hiking trails, perfuming the air after a rare desert rain.
So it’s no surprise that sage was also the very first herb we learned to grow. It didn’t flinch at the summer heat. It didn’t wilt under pressure. And—maybe most magical of all—it came back each spring, no matter how cold the winter. Over time, sage became more than a plant to us. It became a symbol. Of resilience. Of transformation. Of regeneration.
Fast forward to the early days of the pandemic. We had just moved into our home and were part of a local CSA program that delivered fresh, seasonal produce to our doorstep each week. One box came with avocados the size of our palms and heirloom tomatoes that looked like little works of art. Something about it stirred something deep in us.
We held that avocado and quietly asked, What if we just tried?
We placed the seed in water on our windowsill, not knowing what it would become. That little avocado seed? We named him Alan. Today, he’s over 4 feet tall and basically part of the family.
The next day, we tore up half of our lawn and began building our first in-ground garden. And just like that, something clicked into place.
When it came time to create our logo and name, we knew we had to honor those two moments: the sage that taught us how to grow in even the harshest conditions, and the avocado that sparked the dream of creating a backyard garden that could feed our family and our souls.
Seed & Sage represents the beginning of our journey—the literal seeds we planted and the deeper roots we’ve been putting down ever since. Our logo is a love letter to the desert, to that first sprouting avocado, and to the belief that even small beginnings can grow into something wildly abundant.
And now, we get to share that journey with you.
